Tethered drone technology is rapidly redefining how modern organizations approach persistent aerial surveillance and intelligence gathering. As mission requirements demand longer endurance, secure data transmission, and uninterrupted overwatch, tethered drones are becoming a critical solution across defense, public safety, and critical infrastructure operations.

Unlike traditional free flying aircraft limited by onboard battery capacity, a tethered drone receives continuous power directly from a ground source while maintaining a secure, high bandwidth data connection through its tether. This allows tethered drone systems to remain airborne for extended periods without landing, eliminating coverage gaps caused by battery changes or aircraft rotation. The result is persistent aerial visibility with stable, uninterrupted situational awareness.

Modern tethered drones deliver more than extended endurance. Their fixed position stability enables consistent ISR coverage over critical areas of interest. Secure data transmission through the tether ensures reliable communications even in RF contested or denied environments. This reliability makes tethered drone systems ideal for base protection, disaster response, border security, and wide area surveillance.

At the center of this evolution is the LEAP product line, engineered for scalable heavy lift operations and secure data connectivity across mission profiles.

The LEAP Solo 5K is a heavy lift tethered drone system designed for extended operations and currently in use today. It delivers 5kW of continuous power to both the drone and payload while supporting up to 21 pounds of customer payload capacity. With 20 Gbps of secure data transfer, the LEAP Solo 5K enables reliable real time ISR and communications relay in persistently contested environments. This platform is optimized for missions that require dependable overwatch without interruption.

For increased mission demands, the LEAP Solo 10K expands capability with 10kW of continuous power and support for up to 50 pounds of customer payload capacity. Like the 5K system, it maintains 20 Gbps secure data transfer, allowing for high throughput ISR and sensor operations. The LEAP Solo 10K is built specifically to support the growing pipeline of near term government RFP programs and is scheduled for availability in Q1 2026.

At the highest end of the LEAP Solo product line, the LEAP Solo 20K delivers 20kW of continuous power and supports up to 150 pounds of customer payload capacity. This ultra heavy lift tethered drone system is designed for end to end integration with drone software and persistent large payload ISR operations. With 20 Gbps secure data transfer and advanced system integration, the LEAP Solo 20K enables wide area surveillance and extended mission profiles at a scale previously unavailable in tethered drone systems. The LEAP Solo 20K is scheduled for availability in Q3 2026.

Power and endurance alone do not define next generation ISR. Control, security, and interoperability are equally critical. Through secure networking and seamless integration into command and control environments, the LEAP product line transforms tethered drones from standalone assets into fully networked ISR force multipliers.

Persistent ISR is no longer constrained by short flight windows. With tethered drone systems, teams gain uninterrupted airborne dominance without sacrificing data security or operational stability. By eliminating downtime and strengthening continuous situational awareness, tethered drones now set the new standard for reliable ISR operations.

With the LEAP Solo 5K, 10K, and 20K shaping this next phase of aerial intelligence, the future of ISR is defined by endurance, secure connectivity, and uninterrupted visibility wherever reliability is not optional.
